Peter PA4O and Ad PA8AD will be active as PJ5/PA4O and PJ5/PE6Q from Sint Eustatius Island, IOTA NA - 145, 6 - 18 July 2023.
They will operate on 80-6m CW, SSB and FT8, including activity in IARU HF World Championship as PJ5C.

Last days we enjoyed some nice pile-ups but experienced also limited openings during our day time hours to EU. Amazing is the flow of FT8 contacts with Japan which kind of never stops on the higher bands. We keep an eye on 6m but also noticed almost no propagation besides the opening we had last weekend to NA. Yesterday we started with 60m which worked quite well with strong signals from NA and EU in FT8. This weekend we will extend this antenna for use on 80m as noise levels looked much better now. Our PJ5 activity is going well, besides the very strong winds that took some of the vertical antennas down a couple of times. Last weekend we joined the IARU HF Championship as PJ5C and it was great fun to manage the constant stream of calls during 24 hours. We know there is quite some ask for 80m but we found out the noise level up to 6 MHz is horrible. Second half of the week we will see if 60m is somehow possible. On 6m we already made some nice QSO’s with mainly NA using our simple dipole. Upcoming days we will look also for EU probably around 1800 UTC. We will continue having a nice time on the island and the bands and keep you posted.

Our PJ5 setup is now ready to start to start. Spiderbeam and verticals are now available, hoping they remain up in the strong winds. As I got some question regarding the use of the special PE6Q call, this might need some explanation. The license for PE6Q is granted by the Dutch Authorities under the limiting condition that it may only be used within the Netherlands Territory. The Netherlands Territory is defined as Netherlands plus the so called BES island (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba). The same Dutch Authority issued also the PJ5C special call as the BES islands are 100% under their jurisdiction (contrary to Aruba, Sint Maarten en Curacao).
