Iceland is a land of blue lakes, huge glaciers and colorful waterfalls

Iceland is a legendary country that was sung in the Viking sagas. It amazes with its picturesque nature, diverse sights and interesting culture. It is a state of contrasts. Here huge glaciers neighbor with hot springs, modern rhythm of cities - with village life, and snowy expanses of mountain peaks - with green vegetation of valleys. Even the legal system is completely based on the legislation of Denmark, although Iceland is a fully independent state. Therefore, tourists who visit the island where this country is located, expect a lot of interesting and vivid impressions.

Reykjavík is the heart of the legendary state

Reykjavík is recognized by many visitors as one of the most interesting cities in Europe. Its unique location between the Old World and the New World has given the capital of Iceland a special appearance. The city has an unusual atmosphere of northern romance, which is perfectly combined with numerous cultural monuments, original buildings and intriguing tourist attractions.
Guests of the capital will be very interesting to see the “Sunny Wanderer”. Specialists consider this sculpture one of the most ingenious creations in the world. It perfectly resembles the skeleton of a boat of the warlike ancestors of the islanders - Vikings. Every evening, when the orange-purple sunset descends on the city, the “Sun Wanderer” looks especially magnificent against its background and is considered at this time the most romantic place in the city. It is at such moments that a large number of tourists try to take pictures at this unusual sculpture.
Also very popular with travelers is the Hadlgrimskirkja Church. This Protestant church amazes with its futuristic look like a huge spaceship, which miraculously appeared right in the middle of the capital of Iceland.

The monumentality of the building and its unusually sharp, narrow spire, which seemed to stick into the sky, impresses people who see this building for the first time.
In addition, many tourists are eager to visit the Hövdi House, located by the water. It was there that a historic event took place - the agreement ending the Cold War between the West and the USSR was adopted here. Unfortunately, the house is closed for visits. But a huge number of guests of the capital are happy to be photographed against its background.
Reykjavik City Hall is also a delight. It fascinates with its original design in the style of “high-tech” on the background of small houses made of wood. Locals have an ambivalent attitude to this attraction, but tourists are happy to visit this place.
A stunning panorama of the city opens up from Mount Ecija, located 10 kilometers from the capital. This extinct volcano is considered the guardian angel of the capital. Here you can take an interesting walk to admire the incredible natural beauty and leave your autograph in the guest book.
Also those who like to enjoy the panoramas of the city, can visit “Perlan”. It is a large cultural center with its own museum, a boiler house that warms the entire capital and other facilities. But the main attraction of “Perlan” is the three hundred and sixty degree rotating restaurant, which offers the most beautiful views of Reykjavik.
Also very intriguing to tourists is the congress center combined with the concert hall, Harpa. It was recognized as a masterpiece of modern architecture and even received a prestigious award of this industry. The building resembles a ship of mysterious aliens who came to Earth.
Many guests of the city with pleasure visit the Folklore Museum. It is located right in the open air and allows visitors to get acquainted with the ancient traditions, architecture and crafts of this mysterious northern state.
This is only a small part of Reykjavik's attractions, which arouse the interest of tourists from all over the world.

Iceland's most intriguing places

The most important attraction of this island country is its extraordinary nature. There are a large number of volcanoes here, many of them are extinct, and some are still active. Thanks to their eruptions, picturesque lakes and unique natural landscapes have been formed. Especially many fjords have appeared. These are winding and rather narrow bays that frame the rocky coastline.
In addition, Iceland is known for its magnificent waterfalls. In the warm season glaciers melt and fill rivers in the mountains with water. Very famous is “Gullfoss”. It is called the “golden waterfall”, because in sunny weather, the rays of the sun sparkle beautifully in the falling down waters.
Also tourists will be interested in the tower, which was erected by the inconsolable Yoko Ono, the widow of the famous John Lennon, the island of Videy and national parks with unique nature. All the sights of Iceland can be listed for a long time, but to appreciate this island and be filled with new bright impressions, you need to personally visit this country.
