The Land of Smiles in Southeast Asia

Is there a place on our planet where pleasant relaxation and exoticism, unique architectural masterpieces and fantastic temples, unusual museums and beautiful parks come together so perfectly? Of course there is! Just head to the Indochina Peninsula, and you will find an amazing country with an unusual shape, resembling an elephant's head with a rather long trunk. This is how Mother Nature created Thailand, which is called “the land of free people.” Throughout its history, this territory has never experienced colonial dependence. Washed by the Andaman Sea to the west and the Gulf of Siam to the east, the land of the Thai people has become a true paradise for tourists from all over the world.

A kaleidoscope of wonders in an amazing kingdom

Thailand attracts travelers not only with the friendliness of its people, who are born with a smile (hence the country's unofficial name), but also with a multitude of interesting facts about this amazing country.

  • The sacred animal of this Southeast Asian country is the white elephant, symbolizing well-being and prosperity.
  • The ruler of the kingdom is Rama IX, whose name is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for his unusually long reign as head of state.
  • The king (a Buddhist by religion) acts as the patron of all religions in the kingdom.
  • Rama IX occupies a leading position in the list of the richest people in America (honorable third place).
  • No major temple in Thaailand is complete without a statue of the Big Buddha. The tallest statue is 500 meters high and is located in Phuket.
  • The country has more than 32,000 Buddhist temples, where about 380,000 monks live.
  • Thailand is the world's leading exporter of rice.
  • The Thai alphabet has 72 letters (in addition to 8 that are not part of it) and is considered one of the longest in the world.
  • The country is home to the world's smallest mammal (the pig-nosed bat), which weighs no more than a penny.
  • It is also home to the world's largest crocodile farm with 40,000 reptiles (Pattaya).
  • Thailand, formerly known as Siam, gave the world wonderful animals - Siamese cats. A pair of these pets, given to the bride on her wedding day, symbolizes a successful marriage.
  • Thais consider the head to be the most important part of the body, believing that this is where the sacred soul resides. For this reason, it is forbidden to touch the head of an adult or a child.
  • The people of this country have a special reverence for books and documents, which must never be placed on the floor.
  • The people of this kingdom live according to their own calendar, as the beginning of the calendar was marked by the birth of Buddha.

Gifts from the “white elephant” country to tourists

Thailand has earned itself a reputation as a year-round tourist destination, as the climate of this amazing country allows visitors to come here for a vacation at any time of the year. Those who want to relax on snow-white beaches are invited to visit the islands of the most bizarre shapes, sheltered in the waters of the Andaman Sea. It is no coincidence that the islands of Thailand are considered the main calling cards of the kingdom. For example, if you choose Ko Chang, the second largest of all Thai island territories, you will simply be speechless for a second under the influence of the beauty of the emerald waters, beaches with white sand, and fabulous jungles. Just 30 kilometers of this indescribable beauty will make your heart stop! Here, tourists are simply mesmerized by the view of waterfalls, where the water falling from a height plays with different colors in the sunlight.
Those who love exotic and slightly extreme experiences will find a snake farm in Bangkok (the capital of Thailand). Here you can not only see an unusual show featuring poisonous reptiles, but also witness a rather dangerous procedure - the extraction of venom. If you go to the elephant village in Pattaya, you will have a unique opportunity to ride on the back of a white elephant. If you have a photo with this sacred animal, you will become a real hero when you return from your trip.

A visit to the Bottle Museum (also in Pattaya) will be a wonderful gift for any tourist. You won't find anything like it anywhere else in the world! More than 300 bottles with interesting miniatures inside are simply delightful. No less amazing is the Sea Shell Museum, opened in 1997. Among the 2,000 exhibits are some very rare specimens: a giant shell weighing about 250 kg and the world's largest pearl, weighing 140 carats.
And how about a house built in a very unusual way? It has an area of 350 square meters and stands upside down. A real miracle! You can visit a fairly large maze garden, which will truly amaze you, because the directions are constantly changed by the staff, and you will feel like you have entered a fantasy land.
When you come to Thailand, you can see architectural landmarks from all over the world. Mini Siam Park has copies of monuments not only from Thailand but also from around the world.
