VP8ROT Rothera Base Adelaide Island Antarctica

Dear All,

With South Georgia behind us now (in terms of radio operation, currently the ship is at anchor about a mile off the island) I am turning my attention to operating from Rothera base, Adelaide Island.

The ship is due to arrive on 27th December and I have permission to operate from the base, subject to the tower not being busy with flying operations. In the past I have headed up to the base for about 2330z and then started operating shortly after 0000z when the final field party radio sked has been completed.

I will be updating the gm0hcq.com/important_notice.htm in due course with details. As with the South Georgia operation, I can not accept requests for skeds.

Also, there is an Irish amateur who will be wintering at the base as the Comms Manager and he is very keen to operate, not sure if he will use the base call or his own VP8 call, this I will discuss with him when I see him in a few weeks time. More information on his operation will be posted as and when I have it to hand.

So, keep an eye on the Daily Update and the Important_notice pages for further details.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas.

Kind regards,

Mike
