Bahamas
The Bahamas is not just an island, but a whole state, the full name of which is the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The country occupies an archipelago consisting of several hundred islands in the Atlantic Ocean (about 700).
The Bahamas are located near the Florida peninsula. The distance between them is only 80 kilometers.
Andros is the largest island, but in terms of population it is inferior to New Providence, where the capital of the state of Nassau is located.
The Bahamas is flat, with few high points on its surface. The most significant of them is Mount Alvernia (only 62 meters).
Climatic features
The islands have a different climate - it is classified as a transitional type between subtropical and tropical. The tropics are to the south and the subtropics to the north. It is warm both in winter and summer. The Gulf Stream current, which brings warm water and air, is responsible for the active heating of the territory. In summer in the Bahamas, the temperature does not fall below +26 degrees C, in winter - does not fall below +18 degrees C. The water is also warm - from 23 to 27 degrees C.
Just climatic features and became the basis for the development of tourism. People from all over the world come here to bask in the sun and enjoy the stable temperature of warm water.
Precipitation in the Bahamas is easy to predict. From May to October the probability of rain is higher, but the rest of the time the sunny weather prevails. The rains here are heavy, in summer time there are almost every day, but quickly end.
Air humidity is about 76%. In the rainy season it is higher than in the dry season. The best period for a vacation is from September to May, when there is no exhausting heat, and the rains are not as heavy as in summer.
Interesting things about the local population
The Bahamas is predominantly inhabited by blacks and mulattoes - they account for 85% of the population. They are descendants of people who were once brought in for hard labor by colonizers from Europe. 12% are white, mostly descendants of British colonizers.
The temperament of Bahamians is unusual. Like many Caribbean people, these people can be calm, but this calmness is often deceptive, replaced by emotionality. Bahamians are good-natured, friendly people, they respect tourists and in every possible way contribute to the creation of conditions for their recreation.
English is the official language spoken on the islands. The local currency is the Bahamian dollar, which is strictly converted to the U.S. dollar at a ratio of 1:1. Many stores, restaurants, hotels and other establishments accept both the local currency and the US dollar.
Interesting things about the Bahamas
Most tourists in the Bahamas are attracted by the color of the water - here it is a bright turquoise shade. White sand is mixed with calcium carbonates, which appear from the large content of shells, then the mass settles to the bottom. Sunlight hitting the water reflects off the contents, resulting in a bright turquoise hue that can be seen.
The beach with pink sand is one of the most famous local attractions. Tourists love to vacation here, because the photos taken on the beach turn out incredibly beautiful.
Tourism - in general, the main direction on the islands, which not the first decade pushes the Bahamas into the top three leaders in terms of GDP in the entire Western Hemisphere. 50% of jobs, 60% of all income is brought by the tourism industry. Therefore, visitors are very much loved and respected here.
The waterfronts of the Bahamas are incredibly beautiful. Outwardly, they are a bit like the shores of Venice - the houses are located directly above the water, often painted in bright colors. There are no skyscrapers here, large palm trees are planted on the arranged embankments. Most of the city's shores are reserved for stopping private ships, boats, yachts, which can be rented.
The island of Long Island is famous for the fact that here is the deepest hole of Dean. Walking on the water you need to be careful - you can dramatically fall through. The depth of Dina is 202 meters. Divers who want to break world records love to spend time here.
Pink Sands Beach
An unusual beach that is covered with pink sand is called Pink Sands Beach. Located on Harbour Island (Harbour), it covers the entire eastern shore. Its size is small - in length the island reaches 5 km, and in width - only 2. It is interesting that here are villas of many successful Hollywood stars, politicians, businessmen.
Soft pink sand is perfectly combined with clear azure water. This color appeared due to a successful combination of local corals, shells, microscopic skeletons of single-celled protozoa.
Pink beach is rarely attacked by strong waves - the reef protects it from the active influx of water. The area here is picturesque, walks are fascinating, and the opportunities for recreation are wide. For example, it is quite realistic to rent a horse for a few hours to walk along the shore.
Picturesque nature
TheBahamas are covered with thickets of evergreen shrubs, pine forests, coconut palms, which are most abundant on the coast.
Most of the islands are flat, long. There are areas covered with swamps. There are few fruit and vegetable trees because the soil layer is thin. Mango thickets and coke trees are common.
